Organist Job Description

Position: Quarter-time position (10 hours/week) with two weeks of paid vacation per year; reports to the Minister of Music/Worship
Principle Function: Responsible for playing both church organs and assisting in the music ministry of the church
Qualifications for the Position:
• Formal training on organ in classical, choral, and congregational music
• Experience and demonstrated ability in accompanying choral groups, ensembles, soloists, and congregational singing
• Ability to recommend service/maintenance to organs as required
• Commitment to the mission of First Baptist Church
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Play for all regular worship services of the church
• Accompany the adult choir, ensembles, soloists, and instrumentalists as needed in services and weekly rehearsals
• Meet regularly with Minister of Music/Worship and other keyboard staff for planning
• Assist in planning and playing for seasonal worship services, rehearsals, and music events
• Maintain a weekly schedule of organ practice and study
• Maintain a regular schedule of tuning and maintenance for the church's organs
• Coordinate "in house" and guest musicians for weekly Songs of Community (pre-service music)
• Work with the Minister of Music/Worship to approve guest organists for weddings and other outside events
