Trinity Lutheran Church, Hixson

Trinity Lutheran Church, Hixson, is an outgrowth of a 1956 decision by the
members of the Lutheran Church of the Ascension to (1) relocate from
downtown to the Brainerd area and (2) establish a mission church north of
the river. Ascension moved to Germantown Road in East Ridge and the
“mission north of the river” became Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church,
with 91 charter members. Trinity’s first worship service was held April 24,
1960, in a space over the Red Bank Pharmacy on Dayton Boulevard. The first
services were held in the new facility at Highway 153 and Hixson Pike on
January 10, 1962, with a sanctuary seating around 200 people. By 1970, the
membership was 375 and a second morning service was added. In 1971, when
there were 469 members, plans were made for a new sanctuary, with additions
for educational and administrative facilities. These were dedicated on May
25, 1975. Membership had reached 725 by the time the new facilities were
dedicated – and 1400 members by 1985. At present there are around 1000
members.
