Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church

Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church was organized in 1944. The first
service was held on April 16, 1944. By 1946, the church had grown to 201
members. On February 6, 1949, the first services were held in the first and
only sanctuary the church has ever had, described by the church as “the only
pure colonial structure within the bounds of the Holston Conference.” It
was completed for $75,000. By 1956 the membership had grown to 600 members.
There are presently 520 members.

The 250-seat sanctuary is one of the deadest rooms in the city – an
acoustical black hole. A 1982 renovation resulted in very thick
wall-to-wall carpeting and the low ceiling was completed covered with
acoustical tile.
